He said it is a great size and light enough to carry around in a backpack for a quick game here and there, but big enough for a serious game too. The board doesn't really lay flat when opened, so we were a little disappointed with that, but overall it is a good board.

I like the pieces and the way they fit inside the board in their own molded slots. Its a good size for playing a game and small enough to carry around if you are a buddy are hanging out in a coffee shop. I also love the green bag that comes with it. I do have one little complaint though. The magnets are not that strong. I've seen other reviews that said if any stronger, then the pieces would stick together. That might be true, but you can turn the board on much more than about a 45 degree incline before pieces start sliding. So that is good enough to keep them in place if you are on a bumpy ride. If, however you want to set the board up in your lap on the recliner then you might an issue when keep some on of the pieces on.Having said all of that, its a great travel set. I like it a lot. I'm very fond of it.

Big enough for my sausage-like fingers and small enough to still be truly portable. My only complaint is with my particular set, the pieces want to stick magnetically a little off kilter in the squares. Minor issue, but noticeable.

This is both my first purchase of a 10" set and my last purchase of a magnetic set. I don't think it gets any better than this. The piece size (both height and base) are perfect for the squares on this set. Most other 10" sets offer pieces that are too small, in my opinion. The board appears heavier and more substantial, considering the size, than what I have in my collection. It opens perfectly flat. The magnetic strength is probably as good as one can get without the pieces being attracted to one another as they sit on the board (even axially charged magnets will have a certain amount of diametrical charge). And the overall size is just right for travel or portability. If you like compact size, you are shorting yourself with a 5" or 7" set. This size brings together convenient portability, excellent craftsmanship, and a realistic presentation of chess. And though it is made in India (as all now appear to be), it seems to me that WSC has selected the upper end to sell. And at clearance prices, this is an incredible deal.
Matt from Los Angeles, CA 10" Magnetic Travel Wood Chess Set with Fitted Insert ReviewFor a travel set, I find this to be the perfect size that's small enough to be easily carried around and big enough that the pieces don't get in the way of each other and clutter the board. The board and pieces are constructed very nicely considering the price and the pieces are very nice wood with felt bases. The interior storage area for the pieces is very good with dense foam to cushion the pieces so I don't have to worry about them getting damaged while they're in there. The magnets are effective enough that a pawn will stay on the board upside down, but a king or queen would fall off if left upside down. I like the magnets a lot because you can pick up a game in progress and take it somewhere else when necessary, all be it carefully. I've also been able to play a game with a friend where we were each holding one end of the board in the air and moving our pieces with the other. Where other pieces would slide around when we tilted the board, the magnetic pieces stayed put. It shipped quicker than I expected it to as well. This is a good set for those looking for the features this one has to offer.

The workmanship is very good -- the only problem I've seen is that one magnet in one piece isn't placed quite right, so that piece doesn't stick as firmly as the others, and the 'felt' may unpeel from the bottoms. But the crafting of the wood is superb, a really beautiful set. It comes with a green velvet bag so the board doesn't get scratched. The pieces fit inside perfectly. The size of the board is just right, small enough for travel, big enough to handle comfortably. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a magnetic travel set.

Jeff from Fairfield, CT 10" Magnetic Travel Wood Chess Set with Fitted Insert ReviewDisappointing. While I was not expecting expert workmanship, I believe this product is somewhat shoddily produced. It does not sit completely flat, the clasps are flimsy, and after only a couple of uses the felt bottoms (which shield the magnets) are peeling off. A minor complaint is that the manufacturer didn't alternate the grain of the dark and light squares (making one vertical and one horizontal), which would have added a nice touch without any real effort. I wish I'd known this was made in India, as that would have impacted my decision.But in the end the product is what it is--a basic, folding, magnetic, travel set. It's small enough that it fits on my bookshelf when not in use, and the magnets are strong enough without being too strong. Probably the best way to summarize is to say that I think this product does not bring enough value for the price.
