Customer Reviews of Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20"
Doctor A. from Bend, OR Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewExcellent board at a great price! I purchased the traditional black & white color and the matte cloth surface offers a welcome non-glare finish. I have not exposed it to moisture, but I suspect as advertised, this would not be a good thing. The printing is clean and crisp and the side notation is a nice plus. My wife and I play almost daily and the surface still maintains its new look. With the thicker rubber backing, the board truly lies flat every time. We use it with the excellent, heavily weighted Premier 4 1/4" set and it is a perfect match. This board is far superior to the typical thin vinyl rollups. I can highly recommend this terrific board for casual or tournament play.
Phil from Highland Village, TX Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" Reviewnice flexibility, sturdy
Ron from Bossier City, Louisiana Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI Absolutely Love these Soft Mousepad Chess Boards. They are very high quality and give a cushioned feel to chess play. They lay flat and are convenient as compared to a rigid wooden board because of their flexibility ... when its time to go you just roll it up and tuck it away in the carrying case making it easy to transport from one location to another. The dark square colors are Bold and Crisp . These are the very nicest boards that I have ever had the pleasure of playing on and several of my friends own them as well. I Highly recommend this product. Get a couple and I am sure that you will enjoy them as much as I do.
alan from castro valley Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis board lays flat with no wrinkles right out of your bag. The soft surface is silent for blitz. The downside is that it does not spin easily to change sides.
Teresa from Juneau Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewVery cool -- they're just like a large, high-quality mouse pad!
Brian from Gilbert Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI ordered this board along with the Heavy Tournament pieces. The board is nice, rolls up easily, and lays flat immediately. The rubber backing is nice so the board doesn't slip around the table and the large size has been a nice change from my previous set. The only issue I can think of is that the coloring is a little faded on some squares and there are dark spots (extra ink I assume) on others. All in all though, I'm very pleased with the board and for the price there really is no comparison.
Ben from Fremont Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI purchased the black and white mousepad board. This is slightly different than the one they stocked a few years ago with the main differences being that the font is a bit larger and the white squares a bit whiter (I only mention this because the heavy tournament pieces are a more natural off white and this can be surprising when they arrive in the same box). There is a strong rubber smell at first but I find that leaving the board outside in the sun for a day speeds up the "breaking in" period that eliminates the odor. Every opponent comments that they like how it grips the felt pieces so much better than the vinyl boards but if you are playing at the coffee shop beware liquids!
Harry from Monroe, NC Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewExcellent chess board! I have purchased ten of these for my chess club and everyone likes them. I personally like the 20" better than the 22". I heartedly recommend these boards to anyone who plays chess.
Luke from Cincinnati Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThese are fabulous. I already had one board which stood the test of time, and this is my second. You can roll them up for a long time.
Leonard from Sun Lakes Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis is the best chessboard I've seen
James from Albuquerque Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI love these mousepad boards. They are perfect to play on and I like the feel of the cushion when moving my pieces. They always lay flat, are regulation size, and the notation is a bonus. Fast shipping.
Jim from Yakima Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewVery nice boards. They fold up into the bags item#0321P and lay back down completely flat. I like the soft thump when you move the weighted pieces on this board. As always the order got here in about 3 days, multiple items all in stock and arrived in perfect condition. The 41/8th in. King with 17/8 in. base looks and feels very nice on this board.
Juan from Tenino WA Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis is an excellent chess board and I like it much better than the vinyl style of chess board.
Francisco from El Paso, TX Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewIt is very useful, its non-reflective surface has no superior. I have a choice of chessmen: My marble pieces without felt-pad base slide pleasantly on it, and my brass-wood pieces grab the squares firmly. The only disadvantage is cleaning: it does not accept water.
Steve from Oakland Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI wavered between the mousepad board and the regular vinyl; I'm very glad I chose the mousepad - it isn't any harder to roll up, yet it lays quite flat. I also ordered the buddy board which comes in 'regular' material, and that piece does tend to curl. The mousepad lays flat every time and is no harder to roll when we are done playing.I'm teaching my kids (5 and 7) to play, and they spend a fair amount of time with their hands resting on the board, so the spongy material is a comfort bonus.
Luis from Oceanside Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI love playing on this board because it lays flat the first time - unlike the other kind that you have to press for it to stay flat.
Shannon from Greenville Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThe mouse pad is really great. Folds out flat and doesn't slide around.
pnr from austin Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThe Customer service at wholesale chess is outstanding !!!!We purchased a chess set, mousepad board, timer, and a tournament bag. One of the zippers on the bag did not work. and wholesale chess sent a new one right away. I highly recommend them to everyone.
Cam from San Diego Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis is a nice chess board for the price. I got it with the "Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King", and it is a great match. It stays flat no matter what. This is true mousepad material, so the board is not glossy. But other than that, very nice.
Jeff from Phoenix Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewNice board, nice price, but marks up more easily than I'd like.
Ian from Los Angeles Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewYeah, that's exactly what it is, like playing chess on a gigantic mouse pad! It doesn't curl up at all, I've had mine for a few months now, no problems with wear, still work perfectly, and they've got a bit of a cushion to them and a little bit of a grab between the board and felt-bottom pieces, stand up to the tremors in LA :) Well worth the extra expense for the additional quality. And if you have a really big mouse, it still works as a mousepad!
PJ from Tuckerton Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI've only used this for around 25 games, and the dark squares are starting to show a lot of marks. I thought it was dirt, so I wet the tip of my finger to clean it, and the ink ran! Now the adjacent white square is ruined. The board does lay flat, but the ink rubs off from the felt of the chess pieces.
Steve from Tallahassee, FL Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis is an excellent chess board. The one I bought was the forest green color and it had a nice flat color to it. It's NOT shiny like some vinyl boards. Folds up with no wrinkles. Only negative is that it's thicker than vinyl boards so rolling it makes it a bit bulkier. I just fold mine in half an put it my bag, though.
Sulu from Indianapolis Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis is the best board for kids. Lays flat all the time and does not move. I love this . Quality is very good too. If you are thinking about getting one...get this one.
Max from Portland, OR Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThere great, They lay flat just as advertised, look great and the notation on all sides helps the kids(well, me actually). They are a bit more difficult to roll up than the vinyl chess boards. I don't think they are meant to get wet either so I'm keeping the drinks away from them. Highly Recommended!.
Mike from Buffalo Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI've used this board in a couple of tournament already and will never go back to the vinyl. This board rolls out flat no rolled corners and it doesn't move once you lay it on the table. Pieces stick a little better. A great investment definitely worth the price!
WARD from GLEN ELLYN Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI PICKED UP SOME OF THESE FOR THE JR. HIGH CHESS CLUB. EVERYONE LIKED THEM, THEY LAY FLAT AND DONT SLIDE AROUND. QUIET TOO. I LIKED THEM SO MUCH I BOUGHT A PAIR FOR MY SON TO PLAY BUGHOUSE WITH. AFTER UNROLLING SOME EXTREMELY ABUSED VINYL BOARDS FROM THE GRADE SCHOOL, THESE WERE EASY TO APPRECIATE.
Jason from Carrboro, NC Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThese boards roll up well and unroll with no creases at all. A great, cheap option for chess clubs.
Patrick from Willingboro, NJ Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis ia an excellent chess board. It has chess notation and a perfect size to play on. Anyone who uses role up chess boards always wonders if it lies flat. This board ALWAYS lies flat no matter how it is stored. I have had zero problems in this area. The board is nice and soft, just like a mouse pad. If this chess board gets wet, the colors will run. You cannot clean it with any liquids. This is the only thing that is inferior to the vinyl boards. I find the vinyl boards are easy to clean and lies flat 95% of the time.
Paul from Thousand Oaks Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewMuch better than the light weight versions!
Matt from Cleveland Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewGreat board. Folds or rolls up and still lays out flat every time, comfortable playing surface, and the green color is a comfortable contrast for an ebony/boxwood set.
Bill from Baltimore,MD Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewExcellent!
Richard from Aburn Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewOK but I had hoped for the ones with the green squares. A lot less hassle than the vinyl boards. They can be difficult when changing sides as they don't slide like the vinyl boards. But the squares always remain flat unlike vinyl. Yeah!
Jim from Raleigh, NC Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis was just what I was looking for!
Erik from Rockford Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewVery nice board. It solves some of the common vinyl board problems. For example, it doesn't get stuck in a rolled position, and it doesn't slide around a table. The black looks good (as black should). However, pieces don't slide well on the board (I like sliding pieces around, it feels more sinister), and the mousepad may pick up grease and dirt more easily than vinyl would (have you ever seen a 5 year old mousepad?). Another beef is that it's difficult to roll up to put in my tournament carrying case. Otherwise, a perfectly acceptable alternative to vinyl. Just know your preferences.
Alley from Eddy Tx Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewFlexible, soft and gripping both of the pieces and the table. Only thing I don't like is the color is not as bright as depicted. I bought the Green one and it is a very dull, flat green. Having known this I would have opted for black.
Dhruva from Wilsonville Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" Reviewit's awesome
michael from baltimore Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewQuality of mousepad board is of the highest order. I only wish the dark green squares were lighter in color. Ebony or black pieces don't blend as nice with these dark green squares. A lighter green or celery colored squares would contrast better with ebony or black pieces. But, still the best mousepad board on the market
gary from Victoria Texas Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThis product works so much better than the vinyl..lays flat and stays there..... thanks
Greg from Menasha Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI think everyone is familiar with vinyl "roll-up" chessboards. They have been around at least since the early 1970's and have become one of the most familiar items of chess equipment. So when I saw something called a "soft mousepad chessboard," I just had to purchase one, for curiosity's sake if for no other reason. If there is a "down side" to the soft mousepad chessboard, I haven't yet found it. This board is the best playing surface I can imagine: good size, easily cleaned, and, best of all, cushioned to that moving pieces creates almost no noise, even when playing on wood or other tabletop surfaces. The board doesn't roll up quite as neatly as thinner, vinyl boards because of its thickness, but that is no reason to not purchase one of them.
Kieron from Indianapolis Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewI've been very happy with these boards. The curl is very slight.
Robert from Edison Soft Mousepad Chess Board - 20" ReviewThese are quality boards that always lay flat. You can fold them up to store in a bag which is convenient and better than having to roll up the board. I just wish they had a brown version.
