Customer Reviews of Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King

Todd from Tulsa Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat quality, heavy pieces. Exactly what I needed for an outdoor chess table.

Karl from Redwood City Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewStandard pieces with good amount of weight for the lowest price anywhere.

Dan from Harrison, NY Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI bought three of these: one for each grandson and one for myself. They're nice looking and have a nice heft to them. But the best part of buying them is Wholesale Chess's willingness to stand behind them. On on of the sets a number of pieces had their internal weights come loose. I contacted Wholesale Chess and there wasn't even a moment's hesitation -- all they wanted to know was how many of which pieces (black and/or white) needed to be replaced. And with that information in hand they went far beyond doing what I thought needed to be done. It's a nice place to do business. Really!!!

Andy from Santa Fe, NM Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThe weighty feel of these pieces adds a nice touch over the similar but lighter ones.

Steve from Federal Way, WA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI ordered 10 sets of these heavy tournament pieces for our school chess club about 8 years ago. I was impressed with the weight and feel of the pieces. I recently needed to purchase 10 more sets. I contacted Wholesale chess before hand to see if they would honor their lifetime warrantee and missing piece guarantee on my original 10 sets for the pieces that had broken or been lost over the years. (I needed about a dozen pieces) There was no problem. They even agreed to package the replacement pieces in with my new order so that I wouldn't have to pay additional shipping. The new pieces are almost identical to the old ones. They are constructed from a different type of plastic. It is a shinier plastic, and the mold lines are a little more visible. The biggest difference is that the new knights are narrower than the older ones. But the weight and styling are still very nice. And at this price, with the lifetime warranty and missing piece guarantee, you can't beat these pieces for a school chess club.

alan from castro valley Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King Review3 stars for value. You do get value with these pieces, not so much quality. Visual mold lines, a couple of round bottoms and loose felt, but hey, don't get too fussy for this price!

Ed from Dunkirk Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewOne rook was damaged

Luis from Oceanside Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI love playing with a heavy set like this one.

Chad from St. Petersburg Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI bought 7 sets of these chess pieces for the chess club. Each set has pieces that have the weights falling out of them. I do not understand how these pieces are so highly rated. These people that rate these pieces must not play chess that often. We play blitz games 3 times a week, and within a month the weights in the pieces fall out. The weights are only held in by the thin piece of felt on the bottom of the piece that acts like a cushion between the piece and the board. It would not hurt to put in a couple drops of super glue to seal the weights into the pieces. I am disappointed because we continue to not have quality pieces at our chess club.

Teresa from Juneau Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewWe are very impressed with these pieces. The weight and size are perfect. The design of the pieces is unique, yet simple.

Kenny from Los Angeles Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI love thee pieces!

Trish G from West Dundee Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewExcellent chess pieces.

Joshua from Princeton Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThese pieces are perfect for the price. They are inexpensive and are wonderfully weighted. They appear to be strong and I think they will last quite a while with moderate to heavy use. I also got the drawstring bag with which I am pleased.

Ramiro Daniel from Porto, Portugal Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewIt was even the parts I was waiting pesadinhas as they liked.

Brian from Gilbert Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI ordered this set to teach my daughter the game. The pieces are a nice size and weight, perfect for our games. They do not topple easily, which was an issue with our previous discount store set and the large size has really helped her *see* the moves each peice makes much better. Overall, we're very happy with this set and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice plastic set.

paul from marion nc Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King Reviewjust what the doctor ordered. i take this set to work with me and play it on the mousepad chess board. its awesome.

Bill from Chapel Hill Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewAfter year upon years of looking about, these are the pieces of chioce as far as I'm concerned for rough and tumble tournament, club, or coffee house playing -- whenever you've got access to a full size board with 2 14" squares. When it comes to PLAYING they have everything I want: (1) Decent "heft" that enhancesthe feel of playing -- I can't tell much difference between the double and triple weighted versions -- just so long as they are weighted works fine for me. (2) Strict Stauton design, "When I move a queen I wanna be sure it's a queen" -- Fischer (3) They are plastic --one problem with wood sets is that with a lot of use the persipration from your fingers soaks in and over time the black and white pieces start to look the same (it takes a while, but trust me...) (4) Cost: Next to the unweighted pieces of the same design, they are the cheapest to be had -- which means you can order another set with a smile on your face if they disappear for whatever reason. And finally I got them from wholesale chess because they had the best price anywhere that I could find.

Ben from Fremont Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewIf you are playing blitz and need some solid pieces to knock around then this is the perfect set for you. The pic indicates that the white pieces are a bit whiter than the natural off white color that they are but they match up perfectly with the vinyl roll up boards (not the mousepad board which is bright white). The king and queen are clearly distinguishable and the rest of the armies stand up to even the most bitter blitz battles. For the price they are the best value for the club player in my opinion.

Joseph from Coconut Creek,FL. Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewExcellent weight and quality for the price. Fast delivery and all items arrived in mint condition. I am very satisfied with my order from Wholesale Chess. A

Harry from Monroe, NC Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewWOW! What a great high quality of chess pieces and at a reasonable price. Everyone finds that this is a much more desirable piece than the basic club pieces. Everyone finds that the weight and color of these pieces combined with the reasonable cost make these unbeatable. These Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces will be my standard for teaching chess to young and old and I will be buying more of them.

Sergio from Harris Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThis is the fifth set I get of this type. I love the size and weight of these pieces.

John from LA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThese are great. Sturdy pieces with a good weight to them. The only thing I didn't like is that the description doesn't mention if they are double weighted or triple weighted like other sites do. They just say that they are "heavy" Not a big deal, I love playing with them anyway and they are heavy enough for me.

Johnny from Memphis Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewPieces have a really nice feel to them. I always receive comments from other people about the weight and how nice they feel. You can really tell the difference if you pick up a regular plastic tournament piece and then pick up one of these. Graet pieces for the price!!

Andrew from Columbia Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThe chess pieces have a nice solid feel to them. I like them a lot.

Lisa from Boston Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewWe bought 9 sets for CHESS the musical. After production they'll be donated to our student's chess club. Nice. Good price.

Phillip from Detroit Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI love these pieces at this price. I teach chess to elementary school kids and find that this is a much better weight piece than the basic club pieces. They stand up to wear and tear better.

Josh from Minneapolis Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewAs advertised. A standard tournament set, right height and base size for standard 2.25in squares, and weighted, that should be acceptable to all toruney opponents.

James from Albuquerque Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewFantastic set for the price. Nice weight and design. Would have given 5 stars if pawns were bigger and Knight a bit more substantial. Still, one cannot beat the value of this set. Fast shipping.

Dan from Lufkin Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI ordered the quality chess pieces alongside these heavy tournament pieces. While both were great deals and useful in their own right, I prefer the heavy tournament pieces. The design of the queen (with a broader crown rim) is more attractive than the quality piece queen (with a narrower crown rim). Also, the added weight gives the pieces a sturdier overall feel during play. If you're floundering between the two, I recommend spending the extra couple of dollars to get the heavy tournament pieces. They're reasonably priced and relatively good looking for plastic pieces. (On a side note, I do wish they came in a dark chocolate brown and lighter tan color option... I'd like to use these on an old wooden board... but I like the color of the pieces to mirror similar colors to the board. I am happy using these plastic pieces on my quality vinyl chess boards of varying colors... they provide a nice contrast with the green and chocolate version. My black/white soft mouse pad board also goes nicely with the set.) These pieces are highly recommended regardless!

John from Port Charlotte, FL Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI build wooden chess boards and had been buying inexpensive, hollow pieces to fill with lead shot before re felting the bases. These pieces are about as heavy as anyone would want and require no rework. I just hope an angry player never throws one at me ! I also do not care for themed pieces. These are very traditional and a great buy for a plastic piece. All anyone will need for local, family playing.

Sherri from Orange, CA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat pieces. Good feel, easily identifiable, not too heavy...love them!

Steve from St. Louis Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat looking heavy pieces!

Dave from St. Louis, MO Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewHeavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King"Double" weighted, black & off-white plastic pieces with a glossy finish. This seems to be the 2 lb weighted version of the "standard" set used at most tournaments. The queen is nicely rounded so it is comfortable -and safe- to grab and move at high speeds. No worry of the little points on the crown breaking off either. The pawns seem to be slightly thicker than the solid plastic Quality Club Chess Pieces. The king and queen bases are about 1.5" but all of the other bases are narrower than that. The base of the pawns are only about 1" and look rather lonely (to me) on 2 1/4" squares.Pros: 2 lbs weight, extra queens, nice queen crown design, only $7, WSC replacement warranty Cons: Pieces could be beefier, glossy, pawn bases are only 1"

Jason from Tulsa Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewNice tough set of pieces for tournament use. Love the extra queens as well!

Jennifer from Charlotte Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat quality, big and heavy! Fantastic price.

Steve from Oakland Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewBig pieces, nice and sturdy. We pack them into a simple felt bag and they condense nicely. I'm teaching my kids (5 and 7) to play, and they both can move these pieces easily which means they can concentrate on important things (like explaining how a castle really couldn't beat a horse unless it could drop stones on purpose)

Bill from Alamogordo, NM Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThese are great chess sets for kids as well as adults. Just bought 6 sets for my 8th grade class. The kids are lovin' them. Thanks

Nancy from Granville, NY Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI am really thrilled at the quality of these chess pieces. I was looking for an inexpensive but quality weighted set to sell with my quilted checker/chess boards. Although I am still searching for backgammon quality checker pieces. I am thrilled with the chess pieces.

Ken from Ashland, KY Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewBeautiful pieces, and very weighty. All my neighbors enjoy this set. Wholesale chess has outstanding bargains, quick shipping, and great quality pieces.

hiremio from miami Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King Reviewvery goog every thing!!! I love this site

Will Gindlesperger from Delray Beach Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewMy pieces are not heavy at all. I wonder what the normal ones feel like if these are the heavy ones.

pnrbaker from austin Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThe Customer service at wholesale chess is outstanding !!!!We purchased this chess set, mousepad board, timer, and a tournament bag. One of the zippers on the bag did not work. and wholesale chess sent a new one right away. I highly recommend them to everyone.

Cam from San Diego Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThese pieces are great. Just the right weight and size. Not too light and not overly heavy. My kids love them. For this price, you can't miss.

Luis from Oceanside Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThe pieces are very heavy. I love playing with them. Me and my son have played a few games together.

John Galt from Orlando, Fl Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewLarge and heavy enough for blitz or tournament play. Unless you hate plastic pieces, you can't beat these for the price. The extra Queens are a nice bonus. Especially good for quantity purchases by schools or clubhouse use.

james bell from memphis Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThey are the best pieces that i have for that price ,thanks

John from San Luis Obispo Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewJust received the Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4 King, what a nice set (fabulous for the price). The set I received had one problem , a broken rook, due to mishandling somewhere along the line, no doubt. I contacted customer support and within minutes (47 seconds) a rep was on-line and resolved the problem by sending a replacement, no questions, no return required, no proof, no documentation, - what a pleasure to do business with Wholesale Chess. Thanks.

Kevin from Houston Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat product for real affordable low price. Was pleasantly surprised that extra queens were provided with the purchase.

Paul from Montreal Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI bought 4 sets of chess pieces in plastic and there is my full report:

1. Heavy Tournament with 3 3/4" King very good value shinny plastic - Knight look - bulk king crown and - grey white. My note: 3.5/5

2. Executive with 4" King good value with combo set nice pieces - mate finish. some people prefer shinny plastic and wrote negative reviews. My note: 4/5

3. Premium with 4 1/8" King good value with combo set heavy and tall shinny plastic ivory White - King too big for Queen/Bishop/Knight/Rook size - crown Queen too sharp -my note: 5/5

4. Hastings Staunton with 3.875" King awesome Knight details as $1000 wood pieces set- Knight too small (less than Rook) - too small padmate finish and natural colour is brown yellow. My note: 5/5

Jeffrey from Centennial Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewNo doubt this is the best "value for price ratio" chess set you will find! Loose weights are a negative but as you can deduce from the other review are very rare and easily dealt with

Craig from Baton Rouge, LA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewExcellent pieces! Much better than I expected for such a small price. Bravo!

Sergei from Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI'm a beginner who's recently gotten into chess, so after shopping around a bit, I decided on two of these sets (my friends and I enjoy playing bughouse). I was definitely not let down! My friend's set, which is incredibly similar to these (same weight pieces, similar design) cost him more than twice what this cost. Thankfully, I have yet to need it, but knowing that there is a missing piece guarantee is very reassuring. The only thing remotely close to a downside is that the vinyl board seems to collect debris rather easily, but it is easily brushed off and not an issue whatsoever.

ioann from brooklyn Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King Reviewgood set,but 'camel' color is grey-white.

Phil from Renton WA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewCould not be happier, great weight, price and size.

Landon from Corvallis Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThese chessmen are a little heavier than 'normal'. I think most people like that a lot!

Ryan from Virginia Beach Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThese pieces came packaged well, as expected. Unfortunately a few of them had something sticky (maybe sticker goo from the felt) on them and required a bit of cleaning right out of the box. One of the knights has an unlevel base. Other than these minor inconveniences, these pieces are great--especially for the price. Still, I might save my pennies for a little bit longer if it meant I could upgrade to the next better set in the near future.

Andrew from Salt Lake City Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat product especially for the price. They are just as described. More importantly they arrived very fast, great service.

Excellency from Anywhere Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewVery nice, good weight, inexpensive.

Don from Merritt Island FL Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewA very nice set. The heft of the triply-weight pieces is impressive. The rooks have an especially powerful presence.

Bill from Lake Ariel Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewReally nice pieces, and at a great price for the quality. Far better than anything you'll find in stores.

Brian from Salt Lake City Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat pieces for the price. I was pleasantly surprised. You can also get them for free if you spend over $100 so be sure to claim your prize if you do!

Sergio from Bronx Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThis set is superbly price. It is excellent for playing outside.

Gene from Los Angeles Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King Reviewwhite pieces are actually off-white to match the board color. nicely weighted.

isaiah from camarillo Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewVery nice set, and it comes with an extra queen!

Vladimir from Glendale, AZ Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewVery nice set, excellent for kids, not too big, yet heavy enough to play outside at windy conditions. Price is unbeatable (I could not find better - I looked)

WARD from GLEN ELLYN Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI STARTED BUYING THESE FOR THE JR. HIGH CHESS CLUB LAST YEAR. JUST ORDERED MORE FOR THEM, AND 2 FOR ME. THE FEEL IS SO MUCH NICER, DEFINITELY WORTH THE PRICE.

Tim Gress from Newtwon IN. Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewLove these!!!

John from St. Charles, IL Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThe weight and feel is perfect for what I was looking for, something above low end, but still cheap. I really can't complain about anything on this set.

John from Baton Rouge, LA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewMy kids and I love the feel of these pieces. They really add to our enjoyment of the game.

Jim from Herndon, VA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewPieces have a solid feel, low COG with weight in base. Great 'disposable' set. I bought several for gifts to nieces and nephews. Keeping one for me. Everything they claim to be.

Felipe from Chicago Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThese pieces have a really nice feel to them. They are perfect for outdoor chess games and also visually appealing. Great pieces for a low price!

Bill from Baltimore,MD Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewExcellent!

Jim from Rockport Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat chess pieces; just as described. But they come in zip-lock bags, not the pretty blue zipper bag illustrated on the web site.

Richard from Auburn Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGood set but slightly shorter than similar ones that I bought from Cajun Chess a year ago. A lot less flash at the knit lines and only three weights had to be reglued. Plus shipping beats Cajun!

Steve from Woodstock Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI like the large plastic chess pieces. My students are using them in study hall. They are inexpensive enough for me not to worry too much. they are great for a school!!

Robert from Edison Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewIn my opinion these are the best chess pieces money can buy. They feel very solid and the wind wont blow them over if you play chess outside in a park. I have bought three sets for myself and many sets for friends to give as gifts. The only issue I have is that occasionally the lead weight inside the pieces are not secured properly and the weight will loosen the felt bottom and fall out. This is an easy fix with super glue but beware of this potential problem.

Hans from Madison Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewNice quality, sturdy chess pieces without breaking the bank. Certainly satisfactory for casual play at home or for school chess clubs. Nicely weighted. Order shipped quickly and arrived with everything included. Very pleased with my online shopping experience with Wholesale Chess.

Rob from Calif Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat chess pieces for my son. Nicely weighted. Incredible quality considering the price. Very happy!

Brian from West Fargo Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGood quality standard size pieces. Felted bottoms and heavy weights make playing with these pieces a pleasure. The extra set of queens is a nice touch!

Tom from Honolulu Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThis is a delightful heavyweight set that will survive even the most brutal blitz game. Excellent for outdoor settings where there's wind, and the price was right. You don't have to worry about this one...just set 'em up and play chess.

David from San Antonio Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewVery nice pieces for my kids -- sturdy and substantial -- they love them.

Robert from West Liberty Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewGreat Pieces, at a great price. We needed some new sets, and our team really likes these!

Joe from Clermont, Florida Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewBest heavy club set for the money. Everyone at Clermont chess club likes to play with these pieces and shocked at the low price.

Suzannah from Washington, DC Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewExcellent value!! These pieces are heavy weight and perfect for chess tournaments. I would recommend these to anyone!

Jeff R from Bothell, WA Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI didn't appreciate what a bargain these pieces are until I bought a House Of Staunton Hastings set. Sure, the HOS pieces have much more style, but the quality of these Heavy Tournament pieces is as good as if not better than the HOS set, and at about 1/4 the price.

red from wesleychaple fl. Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King Reviewfor the price unreal! i am very pleased

Gene from Atlanta Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewExcellent. Our senior chess club amazed at quality and the price. Outstanding!

Don from Gainesville, FL Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewThe pieces have good size and heft

carlos from Bellevue Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King Reviewnicely weighted , great deal , bottom felt were in place - could be thicker though

Scott from Glastonbury, CT Heavy Tournament Chess Pieces with 3 3/4" King ReviewI have bought this set with the quality vinyl board and a chess bag for use in our chess club at school. We are constantly getting compliments on the quality, weight and feel of these pieces and it usually ends up with the question on where they can buy a set like this. These are very durable and the extra queens are really nice. Highly recommended.
