Chevalier is French for Knight, a rank in the Lgion d'honneur for members of the Ordre National du Mrite (in English: The National Order of Merit), an Order of Chivalry awarded by the President of the French Republic. The Order can be awarded, for distinguished civil and military achievements. The President of the French Republic is the Grand Master of the Order. The Chevalier Series from our Premier Collection is Crafted from Bud Rosewood and Boxwood. Bud Rosewood is a striking, red-burgundy-colored, light-grained, exotic wood which is more expensive than ebony, but is much more resilient and less likely to develop hairline cracks so prevalent in weighed ebony chessmen. The King stands 4" tall with a 1 7/8" base. From the chivalrous Knight to the stalwart Rook, these pieces are sure to catch the eye.These pieces fit well on a board with 2.125 - 2.5" squares.
