I am a fan of wholesalechess products, but I have to say that this time I am dissapointed with the quality/cost of the product; queen is too pointy, and the little ball on the top detached and I had to glue it back myself :(. The finishing is not nice as u can see a lot of debris from the plastic mold , including the molding line. Some of the black pawns are not as shiny as others and in general it looks like "cheap" plastic. I own a set that I bought from the House of staunton, about the same price but much better quality. Please make an effort to control quality with your manufacturers in China, I know is challenging, but is very important.RegardsFreddy Ramirez- PRC

Pieces feel nice and heavy with a broad base. Bag is nice and roomy for all of the pieces, mat, a clock (not included) pencils and paper. Outside zipper is smooth.CONS: DO NOT use a damp cloth on the mat. The color will run and smudge like crazy. Also the crown on each queen is "toothpick-pointy". Zippers inside the bag are a little stubborn.

I'm pretty picky and I have found that the board does not wrinkle (stays flat), the pieces are heavy, stable (do not fall over easily if you bump 'em), readily recognizable, and have a good texture (easy to grab if you're playing speed chess!)... The bag has a sporty look with a convenient shoulder strap. While the shoulder strap is convenient, it does cross over the zipper so when you open the bag, you just need to remember to first move the strap under the bag. The bag holds the board, pieces, and a clock with a bit of room to spare. I'm happy with my purchase.

Awesome. Absolutely awesome. I like that someone wrote "beefy" about the board. That's a great word to describe it. I had some problems getting it to fit back in the bag originally, but I have a good technique now. Start out rolling really tight and it fits perfectly. The pieces are huge and beautiful. I get compliments every week at my club. As mentioned in other reviews, the queen top could be deadly. I just used a small file and dulled it up a bit. Doesn't take away from the beauty at all. Great value, great set, unbeatable bargain. Will purchase more in the future for gifts.

The carrying case is also well constructed, heavy fabric, which is required for the weight of the set. The case holds all the items nicely. Everything about this set is of excellent quality!I feel the price was very good for what I received and have found higher prices on other sites for a less than superior quality product, smaller pieces, board, and much lighter piece weight. I also purchased a score booklet and included it with the set -the gift recipient of this set will use for competitive play. I will recommend this set (and this website) to others and plan to purchase a clock for the recipient in the very near future.

The board is nice and gives a great feel. You can really slam pieces down without too much worry (if you're into that). Because of the larger board and larger pieces, fitting them into the compartments is a tight fit, but they do fit. Definitely a great set for a great price.
