Customer Reviews of Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set

Michael from Monrovia Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewThe size is great! It fits in my pocket or inside a book. The pieces scuff and scratch too easily. They need a protective coating.

Rosemary from Newport News Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewStrong connection of pieces to board, well constructed, a pleasure to use

Jim from Crestview, FL Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewI love these things. Compact. Can store active games. Great for analysis when traveling. Kids can play them in class at school. Oops.

cindy from Parsons Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewLooks good and it's a good idea; unfortunately, I have to agree with the bad reviews. Getting the pieces off the board is one hassle. And it's already starting to have marks. Really poor quaulity.

Stanley from Seattle Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewPros: Pieces well drawn, very portable. Free with my other purchase.Cons: Just your average magnetic set. Seems to be fragile.

David from Milwaukee Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewGood for the pocket, helpful for analysis when reading chess books,

dima from blacksburg Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewPoor quality set, hard to get the pieces unstuck. I use it when traveling on planes, but its still rather annoying. Spend a few more dollars and buy yourself a chess computer, don't waste your money on this

Scott Inman from Atlanta, GA Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewA great set. Its really good for what it is meant for. I have a few issues with it, but these issues can't really be a complaint since its not meant to be a full size chess board. But when you fold up the set with a position, the pieces stick to the sides and come off the board. So you can't store a position for later. Its a great little set though.

Jeff from Phoenix Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewEvery time I get these, the paint on the front of the pieces sticks either to other pieces or to the board itself and disfigures the pieces so badly that I can't determine what the heck they are, or even what color they are! Perhaps it's simply the climate in AZ, but these sets ALWAYS become disfigured quickly when the paint from the pieces touches anything for an extended period of time. My suggestion: take the pieces from this and stick them on the magnetic aluminum board.

marianne from bethel, ct Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewGood item, good as gift for chess club!

Ed! from Columbus Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewI like it pretty well. Magnets could be stronger. And as noted, the pieces are begging to be lost. If I'm keeping a position, I slip index cards over the top of the pieces to keep them in place. Major upside: I had a Diet Coke explode in a bag with this thing and I simply rinsed it off and it was as good as new!

Randy from Fort Collins Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewGood way to bring chess along with you. I'm sure I'll lose one of these pieces sooner or later -- that's why it's nice to have a side pocket on this thing to carry the extra pieces around in. I'm happy enough with it.

Catherine from Highland Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewExcellent! My students love them!

James from DC Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewThis is a nice little travel chess set. However, it needs some dividers between the 2 folds so that the chess pieces do not stick to the top of the next fold, pulling it off its square when a game is in process & the the set is folded. I use 3 x 5 cards for this purpose.

Rob from New Jersey Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewFor the price, these little foldable sets are great -- the magnets are strong and the board is convenient to fit in a pocket. The only drawbacks are that (1) the bishop's design isn't standard, and if you're not careful, you can confuse it for a pawn, (2) the pieces will unnaturally stick to the board and the cover if they are not put away in the storage area, and (3) if you're not careful, you can rip or tear the pieces when you first punch them out of the sheet on which they arrive. Still, I recommend this product.

Sergio from Oakland, CA Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewOutstanding value for the price. I've ordered two of them, and will probably order more. For the price, it makes it easy to have one in the car, one in my back pack, one in my camera bag, and one in my jacket pocket! I'm always ready for a game or analysis. One minor drawback is that you do have to put the pieces back into the sheet they punch out of when you're done playing or you WILL lose them. This makes setting up and taking down take a little longer than I'd like, and it also makes it so you can't fold it up and put it away with a game (or analysis) in progress, but for the price it's definitely worth it.

Ron from Green River Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewThis is the one to buy. Inexpensive and functional. Kids love this set.

Bruce from Cleveland Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewProblem!--the pieces fall out VERY easily. You need to be VERY careful about losing pieces. That said, it's a great little magnetic set (ugly cover!), and I do recommend it.

Jim from Raleigh, NC Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewA most satisfactory Christmas Gift!

jason from bend Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewThis is great! i take it everywhere and use it to follow along the books I'm reading on my lunch breaks. it's lasted a month in my messenger bag and it still looks good and the pocket helps keep all the pieces there, though they could be easily lost if someone wasn't as meticulous or patient as me in putting the pieces all back into the punch sheet they came in every time. my most functional and used set!

Erik from Rockford Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewThis is a pretty sweet set. It's small and easily portable. I love to carry it everywhere. Only problem is that it's got a metal insert. If you put it in your back pocket and sit on it for awhile, it'll bend. (personal experience) However, still pretty sweet for only a couple bucks.

Rachel from Cherry Hill Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewI gave this out at my son's 8th birthday party and afterwards a lot of the parents told me how their kids really enjoyed playing it. My kids love it too. I would definitely recommend this as a travel set.

Carole from Alameda Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set Reviewsuper travel chess set

Greg from Menasha Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewOne cannot realistically expect a "top shelf" magnetic set for the asking price of this item, but at the same time I don't think it is unrealistic to hope for magnetic pieces that are a little more substantial than those that come with the board. If one is interested in a very inexpensive chess set over which significant grief will not occur if it is lost or damaged, this is an acceptable purchase.

John from Gordo Alabama Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewThese things rock! I own two! We always play chess with it in band hall, when the band director starts working with like the flutes or low brass, and she just rants about stuff to them, and we're like just over in the trumpet section playing chess! Also, I play with them in class and stuff. Like, after a test, if I sit by a friend, then when we're both done and everyone else is still taking the test, we slip the chess board to each other, passing it back and forth after making our moves! It's great! We even held a chess tournament after an exam between all the people in class who wanted to play. I just bring it every single day, cause it folds up and fits in my back pocket like a wallet would. So, I've got it 24-7 Well, that's all. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. As a gift, it's really great and really cheap. For yourself, it's really sweet to have. Highly recommend to anyone in the world who knows how to play chess. That's all. John

Al from Henderson Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewI have given them all away already and the reaction from the kids is amazing. Their jaws drop open and they are just blown away. 7-8 to 14-15, makes no difference. An absolutely perfect give away or reward for a win or a prize for mastering a drill. Outstanding.

Carole from Alameda Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewExcellent Stock & service.

Gail from Saint Paul Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewGreat set for traveling; well made and easy to use.

John from New Braunfels Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewWhat I particularly like about the set is that the white pieces are all white and the black are all black. It is a good set and a good buy.

Robert from Tualatin Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set ReviewGreat travel set. Fits in a shirt pocket, will hold a position for you. In 40 years as a chess player I've owned a number of travel sets, but these are my absolute favorites.
