Customer Reviews of Walnut Lacquered Chess Box
Tom from Adams Walnut Lacquered Chess Box ReviewThe pictures of this box really don't do it justice. I bought 2 of these, sort of taking a chance, and was pleasantly surprised. They may not be made from real walnut, but they are very glossy with a nice color. Really can't explain. They just look a lot better then the pictures. The pictures don't bring out the glossy look. The pictures make the boxes look a little on the dull side. One reviewer thought the box looked purple, so was a little worried about that, but didn't see anything like that. I think the boxes are good looking with a nice brown color.I bought one box for a plastic chess set that has a 4" king with an extra queen and the pieces fit great, lying down of course. The other box I bought for a wooden set with a 3 3/4 king and an extra queen and no problems fitting in box. As one reviewer mentioned the middle piece is only connected at the bottom. Not sure why, but it's really not a problem, Just make sure it's positioned in the middle. It only moves a little to the right or left. The green felt seems adequate enough, and the latch works great. For the price, I think it's a great chess box.
Dave from Los Angeles Walnut Lacquered Chess Box ReviewBox is nicely made and finished and accommodates a full set of pieces with 3 3/4 inch king quite nicely. The only (very minor) issue is that the center divider is attached only at the bottom so that it can shift from side to side and must sometimes be centered before you can put both sets of pieces away. But that is a pretty minor irritant and I would definitely purchase again even knowing that fact.
Greg from Menasha Walnut Lacquered Chess Box ReviewThis chess box was offered at a sale price, but it is a handsome and very functional box regardless. I am very satisfied with it - the wood is very attractive.
Gary from Indianapolis Walnut Lacquered Chess Box ReviewAdequate box for storage, but not much else going for it. For "walnut lacquered," read "cheap wood painted an opaque, almost purplish dark brown and lacquered." Structurally, the workmanship seems adequate, though cheap looking and marginal (at best) from the standpoint of craftsmanship. This is NOT something you'd want to buy as a decorative accent piece or to "show off" your prized set. The hinges and the latch are cheap and may not last if subjected to even momentary abuse. Better than a cardboard box, but pretty cheesy.
Bob from Davenport, Iowa Walnut Lacquered Chess Box ReviewThis is a great well made chess box that was the best overall value for the money I found. It fits my 3 3/4 inch King set with lots of room left over. I'm sure it will fit sets with 4 inch Kings too. Nice product and a good company to deal with.
Terry from Maylene, Alabama Walnut Lacquered Chess Box ReviewNice box that goes well with my House of Staunton Reykjavik II chess set.
