Fritz 12 F.A.Q.
Q: Can Fritz 12 be installed on my computer such that I can use it without having the DVD in the computer?
A: Yes, you can install the whole program to your hard disk. The program will ask once for the program DVD at the very first start of the interface and at the very first start of the engine in play or analysis.

Fritz is always great. If you love chess and can spare the money I would upgrade. That being said I must warn you that there is little new except the somewhat hokey concept of dashboard gauges and the new "Ribbon" interface. The interface has grown on me though I believe companies are now making changes for the sake of change alone. Why would one want to trade screen real estate just to get rid of drop down menus not to mention adaptive menus are more painful to me than static ones. If you do upgrade make sure you read the system requirements as they have certainly increased. Also install their version of Direct X no matter what you already have on your machine or the program is likely to require a complete re-install. Some people may find the Chessbase online membership a plus but be advised program updates are now automatic there is no more "query upgrade" function.
