This set has been crafted to imitate the prevailing design and dimension of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cook in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is in the Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon. Its craftsmanship is stunning.
The Nobility Series from our Premier Collection is Crafted from Ebony and Boxwood. Ebony is one of the most intensely black, fine-grained woods known, which, combined with its very high density (it is one of the very few woods that sink in water), fine texture, and ability to polish very smoothly, has made it very valuable as an ornamental wood. The King stands 4" tall with a 1 7/8" base. From the noble Knight to the towering Rook, these pieces are sure to catch the eye.
These pieces fit well on a board with 2.25 - 2.5" squares. Please view our "Items of Interest" below for recommended boards (sold separately).
