Black has at his disposal a direct and forcing way to sidetrack White in the Queen's Pawn game, after the standard 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 opening. Here an immediate 2...e5 introduces the Budapest Gambit, a complex world unto itself which usually revolves around 3.dxe5 Ng4 with interesting play. This DVD, however, is devoted to the positions arising from 3...Ne4!? (instead of 3...Ng4), known as the Fajarowicz Gambit.

After 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e5 3.dxe5 Ne4!? we find ideal conditions for those seeking an aggressive counter to White's central occupation. Black's opening is little-known, especially at club level, and will cause the opponent headaches as he tries to avoid all the vicious traps that Black can set.

The Fajarowicz Gambit suffers from a dubious reputation, but as FIDE Senior Trainer and IM Andrew Martin shows, that assessment is not justified at all. If Black shows common sense and a knowledge of the variations, then he may well get a very good or even winning position right out of the opening. The unorthodox Fajarowicz Gambit is perfect for all those who enjoy chess and wish to explore the tactical richness of our noble game.
