In a down-to-earth style, the video clearly interprets Dr. Hans Kmoch's language for teaching pawn structure play, highlighted by the notion of levers. Organized by strong pawn structures, weak pawn structures, and pawn structure methods, the video covers the complete realm of pawn structure play. Kopec: Pawn Structures and How To Play Them 2 Stars

This DVD is not very instructive. Danny Kopec moves way too slowly on moves that don't matter (he announces each move as it happens). He also straight up tells you that the material is out of Hans Kmoch's Pawn Power in Chess, which is a chess classic. Rather than taking the fast-food approach and trying to learn the concepts quickly by DVD, you are better off just getting the book.Kopec only gives one example position per widely-spanning concept. Though the examples he chooses are good, the way he presents them is not. The DVD is utterly dull. Finally, the quality of the video is poor. It is obviously converted from VHS, and likely filmed in the 80's. The result is a visual nightmare. The color balance was frequently off, Kopec rarely looked at the camera (he was reading from something to the left of the camera), and the positions were graphically terrible. The quality of the video is noticeably poor, even on an older TV. Finally, though there were obvious breaks where a 'skip' button and a 'select a scene' menu would be helpful, but being converted from VHS, the only thing you can do with this DVD is fast forward and rewind.Overall, I'd say pass on this video. There are better ways to spend your money.
