Our Premier Set of plastic chess pieces with a 4⅛" tall inch king, is perfect for those discriminating chess players who want an upscale set, without an exorbitant price. You won't find a set of such value for double the cost of this one.
The Premier pieces have a beautiful finish. The white pieces area striking Ivory/Natural color, a shade darker than light ivory but not as dark as the caramel-color of some natural pieces. The set weighs in at a hefty 3.75 pounds. The king weighs a full 65 grams (2.2 ounces.)
As you would expect with a set of such quality, there is an extra queen of both colors. The king base is 1⅞" inches so a board with 2¼ inch or larger squares is preferable.
Additional Chess Piece Size information:
As soon as I opened the bags I noticed some discrepancies in the pieces weight... After placing them over the board I realized the weight difference between them.
Immediately I asked my girlfriend, that was looking at my order, if she noticed the discrepancies between the weight of some pieces and she said: yeah of course!!
For example the knights and rooks from both colors weighted 2 oz each (knight=2 oz, rook =2 oz) however the KING which weighted 2 oz and the QUEEN (~1 oz) should be heavier than the KNIGHT and the ROOK, besides the BISHOPS (supposed to weight equal to knights and rooks) weighted less than 2 oz
KING + QUEEN + BISHOP = 6 oz
ROOK + KNIGHT = 4 oz
Impossible that KQB weights barely 2 oz over RK
I love these chessmen! Large & weighty, they lend the game the gravitas it deserves. They could even stand to be heavier. Well worth the price.
This tall, heavily weighted set offers excellent value for money at the sales price. Cast in a classic, stylish Staunton design, the pieces are well made, the molding seams not too obtrusive for a glossy set. I especially like the tall, elegantly shaped knights. The only caveat are the razor sharp crowns on all the queens. They were individually wrapped inside the poly bag, and for good reason. You can easily hurt yourself during a game, I suggest you'd sand them off before playing. Set might be tad too heavy (1.7kg, 3.75lbs, with 70g kings) for Blitz. Wholly recommended.
Wonderful Chess Pieces. A nice heavy and good looking set. Wholesale Chess customer service is second to none!!

I love these pieces. I was looking for something heavier. These pieces have a great weight and size. Another bonus is the detail on the pieces, I feel that knights are always the best piece to examine when you are looking for the beauty of the set. This set does not disappoint. The knights are beautifully done with great detail. All of the pieces are elegant. I believe I've bought my final travel set!
Some of the pieces have small manufacturing blemishes. Not so severe to return. But, still a little disappointing. Love the weight
As far as plastic pieces go, these fit my needs perfectly. They are satisfyingly heavy, quite large, and cheap enough that I feel free to bang around in blitz or play outside. They aren't perfectly sculpted pieces of art, they are heavy duty plastic pieces that you don't have to worry about scratching up for less than 30 dollars. Some people mention the sharp edges to the queen, and they are correct but I haven't had any injuries grabbing quickly for it. If it is a worry you could file them down a little to round them out. Go with the mousepad board and you won't have to deal with the edges rolling up all the time.
I was very pleased with the color and weight of the pieces. But some of the pieces were not produced well. One bishop has 2 dings/spots in his crown and a pawn has glue on the outside that seeped from the bottom.
