These standard tournament size pieces are beautiful and heavy for the discerning player! A 3-3/4" king, extra queens, large 1-3/4" base, and classic original Staunton design are just some of the great features of these chess pieces.
These pieces are available in black or red for the dark pieces and ivory/white or natural for the light pieces.
I purchased two sets of the "Collector Series" from WCS just a couple of weeks ago, one in 3.75" (in natural & burgundy) and one in 4" (ivory & black). Both sets have the same elegant design, based on the original 1849 Staunton set, which IMHO has never been surpassed in beauty. In retrospect, I should have ordered the larger version in natural white, too. It looks much nicer (not stark "hospital white"), and the seams from the molding are much less obvious - though still rather noticeable compared even to slightly less expensive models like the Hastings or Marshall sets - Of course, this could be down to the individual production batch. What irks me a bit about the smaller set is that mine was very unevenly balanced, with kings at approx. 70g, but bishops and knights at just 35g and 37g, respectively. The total for 34 pieces was 1.2kg (2.6lbs). If you like the classic design, I strongly suggest to avoid the ivory white - see my review of the 4" version.
