    Very Happy With These Pieces

Posted by Richard Shirley on 28th Apr 2017

Bought these for my inexpensive 2" squares wooden board as a secondary set. Even those the king's base is not USCF sized , I did not buy them for tournaments and they are fine. Plus the pawns base diameters are a good size. which is important to me considering there are 16 pawns and only 2 King's. Anyway; the set is heavy enough; looks good and the Sheesham pieces I ordered have a uniform dark rich look to them. Excellent value !!

Great pieces to go with a 21.25' inch board!

Great pieces, they are perfectly made and are weighted properly for the price! The set I set I received had some chips, but they were promptly replaced.

    Great chess pieces.

    FIDE Type Pieces...

Posted by James DuBois on 11th Jul 2016

This set is as always very reasonably priced through Wholesale Chess; this last set was a really new shipment and it no longer comes with the Choppa box, but instead a vanilla Wholesale Chess box, not a big deal and the pieces remained the same except for a slight alteration to the Bishops - they are slimmer in taper and slightly more oval for the head - all in all a very practical set that closely resembled the ubiquitous FIDE (DGT) pieces.

    Not sized to USCF specifications

Posted by Unknown on 17th Jun 2016

The USCF, the governing body for chess in the United States, has specific "Equipment Standards" outlined in their rules. For chess pieces, they specify a King that measures 3-3/8" to 4-1/2" with a base diameter of 40-50% of the height. The base of these pieces is 1-3/8" which falls short of the 1-1/2" minimum width requirement.

    Perfect

Love these pieces, I use them with the "Deluxe Walnut Folding Wood Chess Board with 2" Squares" and it's a beautiful fit. Everything about these pieces is a pleasure - appearance, texture, heft, sound. Highly recommended.

Great chess pieces for club play

Posted by Vibi V. on 28th Feb 2016

This is a great chess set for playing at your club. If you are looking for a wooden set to use instead of a cheap plastic set, this is a great alternative. I am not worried about it falling and breaking (due to its reasonable price). Good wooden pieces cost $100+.

The Knights on this set are really pleasing. The rest of the pieces are not bad. People are really familiar with this set so it is welcome everywhere.

I would recommend this as a starting set or a set for the tournament circuit. Its good value for the money and it meets USCF standards.
