Extra Queens?:

The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Bohemian Series Chess set. A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 4" King with a 1.7" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads and a beautiful finish. The Chess set has been designed to withstand years of use (and abuse), as it lacks many of the ornate details commonly found on Chess Sets that can be susceptible to damage in the heat of battle. For example, the Chess set features minimal Rook crenellation and Bishop mitre for unmatched durability. The Windsor Castle Series Chess set is ideal for those that are interested in both the historical importance of the game of Chess, as well as those looking for an attractive Chess set that is both economical and durable.

As with all of our Chess sets, the Windsor Castle Series Chessmen exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close!

The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.

Limited Warranty provided by the publisher.

    a gorgeous set but . . .

This set is beautiful and the dragon-style knights are unique. The pieces have no chips or marks and are heavily weighted, especially the rooks.

The only problem was that the set I received had several pieces (knights & bishops) that did not sit flat on the board. The weights were extruding slightly from the bottom of the pieces, so that the pieces were sitting on the weights instead of the entire base. The result was that the pieces wobbled slightly when touched.

I contacted WC customer service and they were great about getting replacement pieces shipped immediately. The replacement bishops were sturdy but the knights were still wobbly, so I chalked it up as a manufacturer issue. WC offered me a return for refund but I'm keeping the set instead. I can live with knights that aren't 100% sturdy but it knocked a couple of stars off of my review. I added back a star for the great customer service from WC.
