I was very impressed with this chess set. However, I wish I had the option to buy two extra Queens. I would have done so.
This piece set is so good, I bought this three times on three different occasions.
The wooden chess pieces I Purchased was simply awesome. Now I’m debating should I play with them or just have it sitting in the corner .
The pieces, simply put, are beautiful. Their chess pieces weren't the only quality aspects of this company: their amazing customer service was too. I am very particular when it comes to a chess set-- I play very close attention to the theme of the set, whether the color of the board and pieces mesh well, particular color of light emitted from the light bulb illuminating the chess set accentuates the color making sure the light isn't too harsh or too dim, being pragmatic about the height of the pieces relative to another to ensure a proper, consistent slope of descent from the King down to the Rooks. So when a specific arrangement wasn't to my specifications, they completely willing to cooperate with me in the most professional and courteous way. Adding further to their generosity, they even sent a whole other chess set to accommodate my likings. Very, very quality company. I will be buying in the future.
It was a gift for my adult son. He was thrilled.
The USCF, the governing body for chess in the United States, has specific "Equipment Standards" outlined in their rules. For chess pieces, they specify a King that measures 3-3/8" to 4-1/2" with a base diameter of 40-50% of the height. The base of these pieces is 1-1/4" which falls short of the 1-3/8" minimum width requirement.
I'm making two chessboards and boxes as gifts and I hope they will be heirlooms. Maple and walnut with maybe purpleheart trim. The 2 sets are as advertised and the ebonized pieces are much nicer than black spray paint. The service was great', the only thing I would change is that the shipping seemed to take 2 weeks.
