    excellent value for compact box

I like the shape factor. This takes up less room than some of the other formats. Good box for a cheap box. Note the color of my box is a few shades darker than the photo.

    Sliding Sheesham Chess Box

I bought the box while it was on sale and for that price I am very happy with my purchase. It's a simple design, well-made, and light. I can actually store two club sets in it with no problem, one premier set. It is sturdy and attractive.

    Great chess box!

Posted by Cole on 9th Mar 2017

I was surprised by how nice this box is. The wood is thick and heavy. It looks gorgeous. I put boiled linseed oil on it, followed by a coat of paste wax, to help bring out the grain and add protection. My box didn’t come with a felt lining or any sort of padding. I might cut out a couple of squares of felt to put inside it. The only downside to this box is that the lid is made out of relatively thin particle board. The rest of the box is very solid, but I could see the lid potentially breaking. Like a couple of other reviewers mentioned, I also had to lightly file an edge of the lid to get it to fit right. I’ve seen this box go on sale a couple of times, but it’s still an excellent value at $25. I like this box more than the walnut lacquered one from Wholesale Chess, even though the sliding sheesham box is less expensive.

    Decent box

This box has lot more room even with 4 inch pieces. Feels sturdy. The craftsmanship could have been better but then its priced economically. Happy with the purchase.

    Looks Even Better In Person

Posted by Richard Shirley on 22nd Mar 2016

This is a simple but really nice box. It is "richer" looking in person and heavier than I expected for the price. Customer service is outstanding as well. I read where a couple of purchasers of this box had trouble with the sliding lid so I asked that the box being shipped to me be inspected first. I received an answer within a day that the box was inspected and the lid worked as intended. I use it next to my board and have my chess clock on top of it. Highly Recommended!

Great price and very practical size. Plenty of room formy premium plastic weighted set with 3 3/4"kings, PLUS two extra queens and four extra pieces to play Sierawan chess. Fits my bookcase lerfectly.

I bought 4 of these boxes, gave one as a gift. On one box the lid didn't slide properly so I knocked off the rough edges with a nail file or sand paper, then lub it with some candle wax; slides easy. Don't over do it and make it too loose or you will grab rthe top and drop the box. A little bubble wrap helps keep the pieces from rattling. Cool box for the price.

The lid would not open. I had to have a friend of mine pry it open and sand it.
